January Recap 2026

Everyone is Welcome at the Welcome

January Recap 2026

The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.” (Ruth 2:12)

January is often seen as a month of new beginnings, and on Sunday mornings Pastor Jonathan began a new series in the book of Ruth. On Sunday evenings, Pastor Steve has started a new series exploring the faithful and trustworthy sayings of Paul found in his letters to Timothy and Titus. Teaching Tuesday with Pastor Jonathan has continued in the book of Daniel, although along with Thrive, some ministries were disrupted due to bad weather.

On 28th January, we were delighted to launch a brand-new ministry — Welcome Woolies, a knit and natter group. It got off to a wonderful start, with 15 ladies and one gentleman attending. Reach Out at The Welcome also recommenced, and it was a privilege to have Stephen Shaw share his testimony of God’s grace in his life.

All ministries are now back up and running after the Christmas break, and we are so thankful for the many volunteers who faithfully serve and make it all possible. Pastor Steve has also been busy in local schools — taking an assembly in Forth River, sharing at the Girls’ Model Scripture Union group, and teaching RE lessons with Springfield Primary P5 alongside Kerry Connolly from Scripture Union.

January has also been a particularly difficult month for many families within our church community. At the beginning of the month, Violet Larmour passed away. We praise God that Violet surrendered her life to Christ the day before her passing, and we pray for comfort for the Larmour and McQuaide families. Nessie Savage, who faithfully attended Sunday evenings, also passed away, and we extend our sympathies to her husband Jim and son James. Anne Shields’ sister passed away suddenly, and we remember the Shields family in our prayers. Sadly, on 31st January, Laura Dickson, beloved wife of Stephen, died suddenly. We give thanks that each of these dear ones is now in the presence of the Lord. We also extend our sympathies to all families in our wider community who have lost loved ones and pray that God would bring His peace and comfort.

As we look ahead to the months before us, we pray for God’s leading, guidance and wisdom — that in every circumstance we would rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks to the Lord whatever comes our way.
