Former Pastor Eddie Young Called Home
The Welcome congregation mourns the passing of former Pastor Eddie Young, who went to be with the Lord on Wednesday 13th August.
Pastor Young’s connection with the church stretched back more than seven decades. He first entered the Welcome in 1948, shortly before coming to faith. Together, with his wife, Sadie, he devoted two decades to missionary service in Senegal from 1960 to 1980, before returning to Belfast to lead the Welcome as Pastor from 1980 until his retirement in 1997.
Even in retirement, Pastor Young remained a faithful member of the fellowship until ill health and a move to Bangor to be closer to family prevented his attendance in recent years. His legacy of service and devotion continues to be remembered with gratitude.
At the thanksgiving service, long-time friend and evangelist George Bates shared words of encouragement and comfort reminding those gathered that Pastor Young’s faith is fulfilled in eternity.
As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7- I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
